For New Christians Only: Three Things You Need To Do To Grow In Your Faith

If you have recently committed your life to the Christian faith, you probably feel excited about the new journey you are embarking on, but you may also wonder what to do next to grow in your faith.

Developing a life of faith is an adventure that will continue throughout your life. However, there are a three things every Christian should do if they want to enrich their life of faith.

Find a Christian church

Being connected to other Christian believers is vital to your growth as a Christian. It's easy to feel overwhelmed when you begin your search for a place of worship with the number of churches available to attend. Begin by attending a few services at a Christian church near your home. If you don't feel comfortable at that particular church, you can try a different one next week. Try attending several churches in your area until you find one where you feel welcome.

Once you find a church that feels like it's a good fit for you, try to attend the weekly services on a consistent basis. You don't need to attend all services, but you should plan on at least attending the weekly worship service.

You should also look for ways to become actively involved in the church. Joining a bible study or small group, offering to help in the church nursery, or joining the choir are a few ways you can get more involved in your church.

Read the bible regularly

The Christian faith is founded on the principles set forth in the scriptures. Choose a bible translation that is easy to read and understand. The Living Bible, The New International Bible, and The English Standard Version are easy-to-read translations that will help you grasp and understand the Christian values found in scripture.

You don't need a specific bible reading plan, although reading plans can be helpful. You may want to begin by reading one chapter of the Old Testament and one chapter of the New Testament each day. You may also enjoy reading one Psalm each day.

How many verses you read is not important. A few verses a day will make a difference in your spiritual walk and will help you learn biblical truth.

Spend time in prayer daily

Many new Christians find prayer confusing. They may feel unsure of how to pray or wonder if it really matters. Some feel like they need to learn how to pray a certain way or that their prayers might not be good enough.

Prayer is simply a way to talk to God as you would talk to a friend. You don't need to use eloquent words or a formula. Simply find a quiet place where you can be alone and talk to God about the things on your mind. Thank him for the blessings in your life and confess to him the things you struggle with. Ask him to help you overcome those struggles. Pray for your friends and family who have needs.

Finding a church you feel comfortable with and spending time reading your bible and praying each day will go a long way in helping you to grow in your Christian faith. Growing in your faith is an exciting and lifelong journey that can change your life for the better.

About Me

Staying Close To God

When I moved away and started going to college, I realized that nobody was around telling me what to do. Instead of going to church and doing the things I was supposed to do, I decided to rebel, start drinking, and hang out with a rough crowd. It was fun at first, but after a few months of breaking all the rules, I started to get really lonely. I realized that in addition to being far away from my family, I was also moving further away from God. I didn't have the light in my life that I was used to having, so I decided to change my ways. I went back to church and learned how to be close to God again. Check out this blog to find out how you might be able to bolster your spirituality.
